It’s ladies first at SFIF 2013 with these two all-female SF powerhouses!

Chick Flick starts us off with their offbeat brand of patient, always fun, and occasionally twisted and surreal improvisation. Founded by long time Bay Area improvisors Mia Blankensop and Mary Matabor, Chick Flick delivers the goods!

PianoFight’s ForePlays is composed of a group of ladies who found each other in 2009 after being cast as the faceless, ubiquitous “CAROL” character one too many times. Since then, they’ve given “CAROL” a face in over fifteen original sketch comedy productions and more than 50 performances in the Bay Area, including the SFIF and SketchFest!

Thursday Sept 12th – 9:30 PM


Cherry: juicy, fresh, and organic improv. An audience member’s innocent one word suggestion begets an entire world of laughs and comedic spectacle that begets more worlds filled with laughter and comedic spectacle. Running every Monday at iO West for the last 2 1/2 years, they have branded themselves as a team that brings a fun, fast paced play that explores anything and everything.

HUGE (Chris Libby and Anthony Veneziale) is an improvised-musical event featuring two improvisers, two guitars and infinite possibilities. HUGE takes an audience suggestion and spins it into a brand new song on the spot, then creates scenes based off of that song. It’s long form improvisation with guitars.

Friday, Sept 13th – 7:30PM


Five Play is the popular East Bay long-form improv group that has been captivating audiences around the Bay Area since 2009. Their chemistry as a group creates one of the most unique and high energy improv shows around – give them a made up title and unleash them on the stage – we’re pretty sure you’ll love what you get…!

EUX Compagnie d’Improvisation was born in 2006 from an hungry desire to cross the classical borders of french improvisation. The EUX ensemble tells the audience compelling stories, intertwined together to create thoughts and emotions, laughters and chills. This show will be performed primarily in French – but don’t worry – they are hugely entertaining even if you don’t parlez français…!

Villain is proud to be representing iO Chicago at this year’s SFIF. Using the Harold as a platform Villain will play with the edges, bend the rules, throw down in spontaneous song, and generally support whatever is put on stage.

Razowsky & Hamilton are back after a spectacular, sold-out show in 2012! David Razowsky is the respected teacher and former artistic director of the Second City Los Angeles and, as an actor has worked with Steve Carell, Stephen Colbert and Amy Sedaris, among others. Rachel Hamilton has performed with Second City, NYC’s Magnet, and performed a acclaimed one woman show at UCB in New York while appearing regularly on NBC’s 30 Rock. Together, they are magical.

BATS Improv is San Francisco’s largest and longest-running improv theatre company and school. Now in their 26th year, they are a 15-Time “Best of the Bay” winner, and has a richly deserved reputation for creating hilarious, innovative, and compelling theatre.

The Recchia has been digesting, re-mixing, and re-imagining fractured versions San Francisco’s f!#&ed up relationships for over two years every Friday night, bringing your relationships to life in the moment, making you part of the action. 7×7 has called their performers “a group of San Francisco’s best” – don’t miss them!

Greasy Lake performs a fast paced, fully improvised comedy show filled with rich characters and stream of consciousness scenes. The members of Greasy Lake perform regularly at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre. Take a look at what this UCB favorite has to offer!

Sunday, Sept 15th – 7:00 PM


The Younger Statesmen are an LA-based improv and sketch group that started working together at Skidmore College, and have since performed at festivals and schools all across the country. Featured on the home pages of Funny or Die and Rooftop Comedy, The Younger Statesmen open with an idea generator that combines music, visual arts, and pure thought.

Daniel Burt and Chrysteena Lairamore met in 2006 while performing on Harold teams at Chicago’s world famous iO Theater. After happenstance found them both living in San Francisco, they joined forces to create “Classy Pants,” an improvised long-form comedy, combining rapid-fire wit, keen observations, and a healthy dose of raunch.

Sunday, Sept 15th – 9:00 PM


Narcissists Anonymous is San Francisco’s most self-absorbed comedy troupe. They have been seen on stages all over the Bay Area, as well as at the UCB Theater NY, iO West, and Sacramento ComedySportz.

Shades of Grey is comprised of Endgames/Leela Company Members and Bay Area improv teachers, Marcus Sams and Jill Eickmann.  Their shows explore slice-of-life situations, comprised of universal characters wheeling fantastically between pathos and hilarity.
