Oil in the Alley

OIL IN THE ALLEY is a unique music & improv act which features original rock music along with polished improvisational humor. The show’s premise is that the band was a hugely famous megasuperstar arena rock act decades ago; the audience is invited to play along as if they were attending the long-awaited return of this huge megastar rock act. In performance, the members of the band are always in character; there is no “improviser host” persona asking for suggestions. Instead, the rockers extract ideas for song lyrics by talking with their megafans in the audience and taking inspiration from their clothing, their lives, turns of phrase, and anything else to launch a song. Oil then extemporaneously creates completely new lyrics to an original rock song as if it were a “Classic” hit from their heyday. The act takes advantage of the humor of the rockstar life and mythos but does not parody any particular musicians or spoof identifiable songs.

Oil typically performs with live electric guitar and vocals, but drums are on a backing track to allow for greater control of volume—Oil rocks with the look and feel of live rock concert, but no one leaves the venue with their ears bleeding!

OIL IN THE ALLEY has been performing in Honolulu regularly since 2009 and has toured the mainland United States and Canada, performing in New York City, Washington, D.C., Hollywood, Seattle, Portland, Austin, and Vancouver, British Columbia.

OIL IN THE ALLEY is R. Kevin Garcia Doyle (Lead Vocals), Sean T.C. O’Malley (Lead Vocals, Guitar), and Bri X (bass). They have improvised over 700 songs onstage.
